Tour the Regional Cancer Center Mobile Mammography Unit
Ladies, if you are one of those women who have put off scheduling your mammogram because you don’t know what to expect, Erie Promotions & Expos is excited to be able to provide you with the opportunity to find out what Mammography is all about! Our Regional Cancer Center has agreed to bring their Mobile Mammography Unit to the Expo and conduct tours of this facility.
Actual Mammograms will NOT be conducted during the Expo; however, their experts will be on hand to show you how mammography works and to explain their program to you. The goal of the Regional Cancer Center's mobile mammography program is to increase the number of women in the area having screening mammograms by being a highly accessible and visible community resource. The mobile unit visits over 25 sites in Erie and Crawford counties through out the year to reach women who do not have easy access to screenings due to work, transportation, financial issues or other barriers. Our mission is to provide an opportunity for every area woman 40 and over to receive mammography services and, ultimately, to reduce breast cancer deaths through early detection.
The mobile mammography program was launched in 1999. At that time the mobile mammography unit was purchased through a grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation RACE FOR THE CURE®. A grant from the Erie Community Foundation contributed to the purchase of the van in which it is transported. Since then over 4400 women have been screened for breast cancer with the unit.
Funding is available for uninsured and underinsured women through Pennsylvania's Healthy Woman 50+ program and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation RACE FOR THE CURE®. Family Health Council works with the mobile mammography program to coordinate free screening services to eligible women. Women with insurance are also welcome to be screened at the mobile sites and their insurance will be billed as it is with any other health screenings. Female technologists who have advanced certification in mammography conduct the screenings and radiologists from Saint Vincent Medical Center interpret the mammograms.
Ladies, come and familiarize yourself with mammography and make your appointment for your breast cancer screening with confidence and without hesitation.
